The Electrodeposition (E-Coat) Paint Process Specialist will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing the e-coat painting process, ensuring consistent quality, efficiency, and adherence to environmental and safety standards.
Your Role and Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development, improvement, and optimization of the electrodeposition (e-coat) paint process to ensure high-quality finishes, maximum efficiency, and minimal waste.
- Assist in the development and oversight of process parameters within Manufacturing 4.0, with a focus on maintaining operations within optimal performance standards (run in the white).
- Continuously monitor the e-coat paint process for deviations in paint quality, chemical balance, or equipment performance. Troubleshoot any process anomalies and implement corrective actions to maintain smooth operations.
- Perform regular audits and data analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of the process, identifying areas for improvement and cost-saving opportunities.
- Manage the maintenance and cleanliness of paint racks, ensuring they are free from contaminants, build-up, and defects. Implement regular cleaning schedules and inspect racks for wear and tear, addressing any issues proactively to avoid production delays. Ensure associates completing maintenance activities are properly trained and adhere to the appropriate work instructions.
- Monitor and maintain strip tanks used in the electrodeposition process, ensuring they are operating within prescribed parameters. Perform routine maintenance on the strip tanks to ensure proper function, prevent build-up, and prolong the life of the equipment.
- Develop and maintain a preventive maintenance schedule for all e-coat process equipment, including paint tanks, racks, and strip tanks, to minimize downtime and extend the life of critical assets.
- Create and maintain E-Coat Process Planning Sheets (EPPS) for all new and existing product.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (engineering, production, and quality control) to support production goals and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with sales and engineering teams to generate accurate cost estimates for the e-coat process, including estimates for custom racks, material specifications, design adjustments, and configurations, while ensuring all designs comply with Marwood's building standards.
- Collaborate with the Engineering, Quality, and Production teams to ensure paint racks are thoroughly reviewed, meet all specifications, and are approved (bought off) for production.
- Train and mentor paint technicians, maintenance, and production staff on e-coat process procedures, strip tank process procedures, safety protocols, and best practices, and proper cleaning of racks.
- Ensure that e-coat coatings meet industry specifications, customer requirements, and internal quality standards, including adhesion, thickness, uniformity, and corrosion resistance.
- Collaborate with the quality assurance team to address any deviations or non-conformances, implementing corrective and preventive actions when necessary.
- Support the preparation of documentation for quality certifications and compliance audits.
- Provide technical expertise and problem-solving support for e-coat-related issues such as coating defects, process interruptions, and equipment malfunctions.
- Collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams to ensure the proper functioning of e-coat lines and support maintenance and repair as needed.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends, technologies, and innovations in the electrocoating industry.
- Work with the engineering and product development teams to integrate new materials, processes, and technologies into production, enhancing product quality and process efficiency.
- Ensure the e-coat process is in full compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations, including handling chemicals, waste disposal, and air quality.
- Implement and enforce best practices for safety and ensure the team follows all standard operating procedures (MOSs and TWIs) for equipment and chemical handling.
- Assist with audits and ensure the safe disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with local, provincial, and federal guidelines.

Key Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related field) or Quality Management; Master's degree or relevant certifications (CQE, Six Sigma Black Belt, etc.) preferred.
- Possession of a Quality Management Certification is considered a valuable asset.
- 5+ years of experience in quality management, product development, or manufacturing, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management role focused on pre-production activities.
- Strong background in product development, manufacturing, and post-production quality management, with proven experience in leading cross-functional teams to drive quality improvements.
- Advanced knowledge of quality management systems (QMS), industry standards (ISO 9001, IATF 16949), and regulatory requirements.
- Expertise in quality tools and methodologies such as FMEA, SPC, root cause analysis, CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions), 8D, and 5-Why.
- Proficient in using data analysis tools (e.g., Minitab, Excel) and process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
- Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing quality teams.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively interact with senior management, customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams.
- Grade 12, GED, or equivalent
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is an Asset. Alternatively, equivalent work experience may be considered.
- 3+ years of experience working with electrodeposition (e-coat) or related coating processes, ideally in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- A Valid Certificate of Qualification is considered an Asset
- Experience with paint systems, coating technologies, and industrial equipment.
- Relevant certifications in electrocoating or coatings technology are a plus (e.g., NACE, SSPC, AMPP).
- In-depth knowledge of e-coat paint systems, bath chemistry, process controls, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Strong understanding of coating performance parameters (e.g., adhesion, film thickness, corrosion resistance, etc.).
- Familiarity with quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001 or IATF 16949) and environmental regulations.
- Ability to analyze process data and diagnose root causes of issues within the e-coat process.
- Strong troubleshooting skills to quickly identify problems and implement corrective actions.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Self-motivated with a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement
