Overall Responsibility:

The Quality Technician supports the production team by providing expert quality control through scheduled and regular testing and observation. Provide guidance and support in identifying and resolving quality issues. Act as a customer liaison, delivering exceptional service and feedback when handling quality concerns.

Accountabilities:

  • Monitor all aspects of blanking production operations to ensure compliance with customer specifications, control plans, and internal quality standards.
  • Perform regular in-process and final inspections of blanks, including dimensional, visual, and surface quality checks.
  • Verify that inspection records and quality documentation are completed accurately and meet company & customer requirements.
  • Conduct process audits and ensure documentation aligns with applicable standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure blanks meet workmanship and acceptance criteria, including: Burr height, Edge condition, Flatness and Surface defects (scratches, rust, oil stains, dents)
  • Support new part number blanking launches, die try-outs, and process validations during ramp-up phases.
  • Conduct lab testing and sample preparation, such as: Blank raw cross section analysis and Mechanical property sampling (as required).
  • Follow all inspection, testing, and sample retention procedures as per work instructions and control plans.
  • Issue non-conforming material (NCM) tags, initiate deviation reports, and escalate quality concerns to the Quality Manager or Engineer.
  • Support containment activities, sorting, and root cause investigations for internal or customer quality issues.
  • Support capability studies, audits, and gauge R&R as needed.
  • Interpret intermediate-level technical drawings and apply SPC principles.
  • Maintain, verify, and assist with calibration of measuring instruments: Calipers, Micrometers, Go/No-Go gauges, taper gauge and other measuring instruments.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities (5S, Kaizen, WCM initiatives) related to quality and process stability.
  • Comply with Health, Safety & Environmental responsibilities per HSE Management Standards, OHSAS 18001, and ISO 14001.
  • Ensure QMS compliance with IATF 16949 and AMTB Process Map.
  • Adhere to all policies outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in Quality, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in automotive manufacturing quality control.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.
  • Familiarity with IATF 16949 standards and PPAP documentation.
  • Experience with MRP systems (e.g., AS400).
  • Proficiency in Office 365 and technical report writing.
  • Metallurgy
  • Stamping and metal component inspection
  • Tensile and hardness testing
  • SPC and drawing interpretation
  • Use and calibration of precision measuring instruments
