Construction Worker
Permanent, full-time position – London, ON
Join London Hydro as a Construction Worker within our Engineering & Operations Division. Under the direction of the Superintendent - Civil Construction, Construction Crew Supervisor, or designate, perform duties relating to the construction and maintenance of London Hydro electrical and building facilities.

JOB DUTIES
As part of your responsibilities as a Construction Worker, you will:
- Install, remove, or maintain residential and commercial civil underground infrastructure (including, but not limited to, pad-mounted device foundations/bases, chambers, ducts, ground grids, cable and associated equipment). Hand-dig trenches and erect shoring. Act as a spotter for the Construction Worker II.
- Excavate, erect forms, tie and place steel, pour concrete and lay rough bricks.
- Operate boom truck, concrete saw, tamper, and other related construction equipment.
- Control traffic to ensure traffic flow around work sites.
- Restore public and private property after work completed.
- Locate buried hydro cables, pull boxes and other utility plant.
- Read drawings for hydro and other utilities.
- Requisition materials from work orders.
- Splice new, non-connected, residential service cable.
- Use computer/tablet/cell phone and appropriate software proficiently as required.
- Assist in training job duties to personnel when requested.
- Move furniture and equipment, remove snow, and perform yard and janitorial duties at London Hydro properties.
- Work in close proximity to high-voltage cable and/or equipment.
- Work with hazardous materials on a regular basis.
- Work in close proximity to heavy traffic on a regular basis.
- Work in confined spaces on a regular basis.
- Work requires heavy physical effort on a regular basis.
- Adhere to all Occupational Health & Safety Act rules and regulations, the E&USA rule book, London Hydro work practices and London Hydro’s Health & Safety Management System.
- Perform other duties related to the above job purpose.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Successful completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Driver's License Class AZ (a driver's license and an ability to drive is required in order to discharge the essential duties of the position).
- Ability to obtain Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities Mobile Crane Operator 0-8 Ton Certificate.
- Effective interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills.
