Summary

The Post-Harvest Manager will be responsible for managing post-harvest production practices, from harvest to bulk packaging as well as the biosecurity practices, room cleaning to equipment cleaning. This position require oversight on all aspects of the facility, pertaining to post harvest and biosecurity and is responsible for all post-harvest and biosecurity activities conducted under the license. The Post-Harvest Manager, will supervise, coach, and provide direction to the Post-Harvest and Biosecurity teams. This position reports to the Director of Cultivation and provides support to achieve the departmental goals, while ensuring compliance to Health Canada’s Cannabis Regulations and internal adherence to Health and Safety protocols. The Post-Harvest manager will monitor and adjust techniques as necessary, at the direction of the Director of Cultivation, to ensure the optimization of labour and development and enforcement of SOPs, to meet productivity targets and quality standards.

Job Duties

  • Reporting and communicating daily the status of the Post-Harvest and Biosecurity departments, delivering a weekly summary to the Director of Cultivation
  • Participate in the hiring process for new employees, conduct annual performance reviews and address any issues through coaching and progressive discipline in adherence to company policy
  • Monitor and manage employee attendance, including Dayforce payroll/timesheets and vacation requests, to ensure the department is adequately staffed
  • Confirming essential supply inventories are being monitored and deficiencies are communicated and resolved
  • Responsible for all post-harvest and biosecurity productivity, process efficiency and quality standards while staying within allocated budget
  • Oversee and manage the Supervisors, Post-Harvest and Biosecurity, on all aspects of post-harvest and biosecurity but not limited to drying, curing, destemming, trimming, sorting, bulk packaging, common area cleaning, equipment cleaning, sanitation, room cleaning and record keeping
  • Assisting in the development of environmental strategies for drying and curing and optimization of equipment configurations.
  • Ensuring health and safety guidelines are always followed by all employees, including direct and indirect reports
  • Support production scheduling to precisely project post-harvest needs on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis to meet the company timelines and goals
  • Establish methods and KPI’s to meet work schedules and co-ordinate work activities, with cultivation and quality assurance, setting clear expectation of the work to be done with the post-harvest technicians to ensure product quality
  • Review daily activities with a focus on continuous improvement to determine opportunities for advancement in productivity, efficiency, and quality
  • Ensure the accurate data collection for all post-harvest and biosecurity processes including, raw materials, inventory tracking environmental monitoring, sanitation, equipment, supplies, destruction, corrective and preventative measures, and internal quality checks
  • Collaborate with the Director of Cultivation and Quality Assurance, on any process improvement changes to Standard Operation Procedures and implementation of new forms to capture quality data
  • Support and review the development of the annual Cultivation Budget with the Director of Cultivation
  • Continuous training of post-harvest and biosecurity supervisors and technicians and facilitate their skill development
  • Set clear expectations of work to be done with supervisors and technicians to ensure product quality
  • Adhere to the Cannabis Act regulations and standard operation procedures for the Good Production Practices (GPP)
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Cultivation

Requirements

  • Minimum three years experience working in a leadership role
  • Post-Secondary Education or the equivalent in years demonstrated experience in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, Pharmaceutical, Manufacturing, Agriculture or other related field.
  • Experience in the cannabis industry considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated success in a supervisory, management or leadership role.
  • Strong organizational skills including effective prioritization and follow-up.
  • Ability to deal with confidential information with a high degree of diplomacy.
  • Ability to supervise a team of individuals and address any areas of concern with respect to performance or processes.
  • Strong working knowledge of GPP and record keeping requirements under the Cannabis Regulations.
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook and other Microsoft Office Programs.
  • Demonstrated self-starter abilities capable of performing work with minimal supervision as well as a team player.
  • Detail oriented with excellent problem-solving ability.
  • Experience with Sage X3 or equivalent ERP software is an asset.
  • Ability to obtain security clearance issued by Health Canada under the Cannabis Regulations, already having security clearance is considered an asset.
