Dessert Holdings is a leading baked goods platform providing premium layer cakes, cheesecakes, brownies, bars, and other desserts to the retail in-store bakery ("ISB") and foodservice channels on a largely private label basis. Position Purpose:

This role is responsible for the coordination of day-to-day safety initiatives between our facilities located in London, Ontario, and Delta, British Columbia.  The Health and Safety Coordinator reports directly to the Senior Health & Safety Manager and will be required to promote safety attitudes, safe work practices and environments as well as manage, maintain, and administer the Health and Safety program with the objective of minimizing accidents and injuries.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

•            Advises and assists managers and supervisors in promoting a safe work environment.

•            Ensures compliance with federal and provincial regulations by understanding existing laws and rules, interpreting standards, enforcing adherence, and advising management on needed actions

•            Acts as an internal resource for incident investigation using root cause analysis.

•            Responsible for keeping records of safety-related incidents and recommendation and administration of corrective measures

•            Assists with the coordination of emergency evacuation drills and any other compliance practices

•            Collaborate by sharing best practices with other DH facilities and support the execution of initiatives

•            Performs safety compliance inspections including hazard analysis, risk assessments, safe work procedures, written reports, and recommendations.

•            Leads others directly and indirectly to enhance safety culture

•            Responsible for monitoring adherence to the company safety program by all Dessert Holdings employees and contractors

•            Work collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure health and safety concerns are addressed and resolved in a timely manner

•            Follow-up on open action items, legislative requirements, and support the implementation of corrective actions

•            Partners with Human Resources in workers compensation management  

•            Assists in the processing, tracking, recording, and reporting of accident and incident data

•            Leads the health and safety committees

•            Develop site specific training materials and executes safety training to include compliance programs

•            Create inspection schedules and follow up on corrective actions

•            Other duties related to maintaining a safe work environment as assigned

Educational Requirements:

•            A minimum of Bachelor’s degree or technical training in any safety-related field

•            A professional designation (e.g. CRST, CRSP) is an asset

Experience Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of occupational health & safety experience in an industrial setting.

  • Must be a HIGHLY MOTIVATED, service and team-oriented individual with an attention to detail effective managing self with little supervision – self driven.

Job Specific Competencies, Skills & Knowledge Required: 

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of occupational health & safety regulations and standards in Ontario and British Columbia
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) to be an effective influencer at all levels and display effective leadership skills
  • Proficiency with database applications and administration systems, specifically Microsoft office
  • Effective organizational skills
