Summary of Position


Maintenance plays an important role in the success of the Glen Dimplex Americas London Manufacturing facility by ensuring equipment uptime and reliability. It helps control costs through preventive care, supports product quality by keeping machines within proper operating parameters, and enhances workplace safety and regulatory compliance. Additionally, maintenance supports continuous improvement, contributes to operational efficiency, sustainability, and asset management—making it a key driver of productivity, safety, and long-term profitability.

Reporting to the London Plant Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor leads and oversees the daily operations of the maintenance department. They act as a key contact and coordinator for external contractors and service providers, and partner with other plant functions to ensure timely and effective completion of maintenance activities. The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for prioritizing and assigning work, driving preventive maintenance programs, troubleshooting equipment issues, and ensuring the team adheres to all safety and compliance requirements. This leadership role is also instrumental in shaping a high-performance maintenance culture that aligns with the company’s operational excellence goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate the activities of a skilled workforce of maintenance technicians, providing day-to-day direction and support.
  • Plan, prioritize, and schedule maintenance activities to minimize disruption to production and ensure optimal equipment uptime.
  • Develop and maintain predictive and preventive maintenance documentation, including machinery identification, equipment maintenance requirements, and maintenance records.
  • Utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to manage work orders, track equipment history, and analyze maintenance data for continuous improvement.
  • Develop and track performance against established KPIs related to maintenance activities, equipment performance, and downtime reduction.
  • Promote, participate in, and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability, safety, and plant performance.
  • Coordinate the efforts of external contractors and service providers supporting plant and equipment maintenance, repair, and installation.
  • Maintain appropriate inventories of spare parts, punches, small tools, and other critical supplies to support uninterrupted maintenance operations.
  • Advise the Plant Manager regarding all production, personnel, or equipment-related issues impacting plant operations.
  • Manage and monitor maintenance spending on parts, services, and equipment to ensure cost effectiveness and budget compliance.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety policies and procedures and verify that all equipment safety systems are functioning properly.
  • Ensure maintenance activities comply with regulatory, safety, and environmental standards, and maintain accurate documentation for audits and inspections.
  • Coach, mentor, and evaluate maintenance team members to support skills development, high performance, and workforce engagement.
  • Support onboarding and training of new team members to ensure safe and effective integration into the department.
  • Assist with the sourcing, selection, and procurement of manufacturing assets, working closely with engineering and procurement teams.
  • Participate in process and equipment troubleshooting and lead or support root cause problem-solving activities.
  • Coordinate and respond to emergency maintenance situations to minimize downtime and ensure a safe resolution.
  • Undertake other related duties as assigned to support the overall success of the maintenance function and plant operations.

 

Position Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Maintenance, or Engineering Technology).
  • Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in powder coating and metal fabrication processes, including roll forming and stamping.
  • Experience working with preventive maintenance programs.
  • Experience with installation, troubleshooting, and repair of industrial mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Strong understanding of industrial equipment and systems, including automation, PLCs, HVAC, and utilities (compressed air, water, etc.).
  • Proficient in reading mechanical and electrical schematics, technical manuals, and blueprints.
  • Hands-on familiarity with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with ERP systems is an asset.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a team, manage performance, and foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks under pressure.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across departments and coordinate with external contractors and vendors.
  • Solid understanding of workplace safety legislation and best practices in an industrial setting.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices and maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a root cause–focused mindset.
  • Capable of making sound decisions in high-pressure or emergency situations.
  • Trade certification (e.g., Millwright or Industrial Electrician) or relevant Red Seal designation is considered an asset.
  • Strong commitment to collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement in a team-oriented manufacturing environment.
