Position Summary

The Area Leader is the First line supervisor who provides instruction, guidance and leadership to Team Members by assisting in solving day to day problems, utilizing all available resources along with the Magna Employee Charter while implementing the policies and procedures of the company. In addition to promoting Formet values, Logistics Area Leaders are also responsible for overseeing and directing of Team Leaders and Logistic Coordinators in the activities related to material movement and storage.

Recommended Qualifications

? Post-secondary education, preferably in materials management or equivalent.
? Minimum 5 years of related experience in an automotive Just In Time environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

? Perform all duties and promote themselves in a manner that reflects Formet Expectations and Formet’s Visions/Values through Magna’s Employee Charter.
? Follow and abide by all government, Legal, Magna and Formet rules and regulations.
? Contribute to continuous improvement and cost reduction activities.
? Schedules, supervises, co-ordinates and directs the activities of the Logistics team to ensure material movement and storage is carried out effectively.
? Act on behalf of Assistant / Department leader in their absence.
? The Area Leader is responsible for 5-15 Team Members.
? Establish and maintain effective communication / interaction with all other Departments, including but not limited to Engineering, Quality Assurance, Maintenance, Human Resources and Material Control Support groups in order to achieve established targets.

? Conduct all business activity in a professional manner consistent with the positive leadership practices of building trust, empowerment and competitiveness, with emphasis on personal responsibility.
? Plans and directs the utilization and use of all equipment and manpower to achieve the most effective results.
? Oversee rail dock activity, rail traffic, yard activities, truck traffic, shipping and receiving and material handling activities for the production environment
? Assist in the development of the layout for material storage, ensuring effective and efficient use of space within and outside the plant.
? Participate in recruiting of new materials personnel.
? Be responsible and accountable for meeting Formet and department targets and goals.
? Utilize interactive management principals / expectations when implementing corrective discipline procedures in dealing with unsatisfactory employees / performance feedbacks.
? Maintain Team Member records and deliver discipline as necessary.
? Work with Human Resources to implement and utilize the progressive discipline process.
? Encourage professional / personal development to enhance team performance. Cross train team members to maximize flexibility and coverage to accommodate vacations and absences.
? Be able to operate and maintain all machinery and equipment in their assigned area of responsibility and possess a solid understanding and knowledge of the work to be performed by the department.
? Maintain Team Member payroll.
? Supervise Team Member’s in accordance with the principles of the Employee Charter and the policies and procedures set out in the Formet Handbook.
? Attend, lead and / or participate in Team, Department and any other meetings as required to communicate information to all Team Members.
? Ensure departmental compliance to all Health and Safety procedures / standards.
? Maintain safety standards of equipment and work area and ensure all duties are performed in a safe manner in accordance with the safety policies at Formet.
? Conduct 5S and Layered Process Audits as outlined.
? Conduct safety talks and communicate safety bulletins.
? Train Team Members on the specific job hazards.
? Facilitate Accident and Incident Investigations.
? Enforce safety rules and correct unsafe acts or conditions
? Perform other duties as designated.

Working Conditions

? Office and Manufacturing Environments.
? Able to work shift work.
? Able to be flexible in hours of work in order to meet internal/external customer requirements (scheduled and non-scheduled overtime shifts, etc.)

Safety and Housekeeping

? Responsible to adhere to all Health and Safety programs in accordance with the O.H.S.A.
? Follow and ensure the company’s procedures regarding safety rules and regulations are followed throughout the plant.
? Ensure that you work and operate equipment according to Formet’s safety rules and regulations.
? Active role in maintaining excellent housekeeping through leading by example.
? Ensure that your department is clean, tidy, organized and a safe workplace at all times.
? As with Safety, Security is everyone’s responsibility and Formet requires its employees to contribute to this activity by immediately notifying your supervisor when you identify security issues that affect the integrity of our supply chain, in accordance with PIP (Partners in Protection) and C-TPAT (Customs – Trade Partnership Against Terrorism) requirements.
