Job Description
Develop electrical and pneumatic schematics for custom automation systems, design and implement logical PLC and HMI programs to produce efficient, fully functional automation system controls that meet specifications. Perform the integration of robots into automated systems and review concepts and designs of automated machines.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop electrical and pneumatic schematics within SolidWorks Electrical.
- Work in conjunction with manufacturing to review schematics confirming accuracy and identifying ways to optimize the system.
- Identify and research electrical and pneumatic components for the project to ensure they meet requirements.
- Create functional PLC and HMI programs offline using mechanical and controls design information.
- Develop and implement the communication and IO interfacing between devices and systems.
- Develop a safety PLC program in accordance with CSA Standards for the automated system and complete testing with system engineer guidance to ensure proper function.
- Install offline program into the machine and troubleshoot IO, communications, machine function (with machine build team) errors and faults that occur within the program.
- Organize concept designs/project documents to complete robot simulation of system
- Support the applications group by creating simulations to test quoted systems ensuring concepts are achievable.
- Configure, program, and fine-tune robots once simulation is loaded.
- Develop the system process, develop robot path, and review zoning of robots to confirm safe interaction.
- Create, configure, and test all robot safety features.
- Create DCS and set up Safe Zones for operator interaction.
- Commission the equipment at the customer location by testing and interfacing between equipment, setting up communications between devices, performing I/O checks and completing unit tests.
- Work with customers, project managers, designers, millwrights and electricians to solve problems in order to provide customers with a complete functional system.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Degree/Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, or Robotics
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in automation/custom machine build field
- Preference given to those familiar with Magna standards and expectations
- Computer Expertise: Microsoft Office, SolidWorks Electrical, AutoCad Electrical, Windows 7+
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of custom machine building and processes including vision, laser, assembly, welding etc.
- Understanding of Ontario Electrical Code and Electrical Circuits
- Knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, CSA guarding, CSA Safety Standards, and Robot Safety Standards
- Strong ability to work with Allen Bradley Studio 5000 software and Factory Talk View HMI development.
- Familiarity with common industrial networking protocols.
- Ability to work openly in a team environment and communicate ideas and problems clearly to projects team
- Knowledge of various robot applications ie. Spot Weld, MIG, TIG, Dispensing, Laser, Material Handling, Etc.
- Knowledge of Fanuc, Motoman, ABB, Kuka Robots
- Knowledge of weld controllers (Spot, MIG, TIG, Laser, etc.)
