Job Summary
The Procurement Specialist is responsible to source, purchase and expedite the receipt of material goods at the best price, terms, and delivery schedule according to instructions, experience, and knowledge of production needs. Procurement Specialist assists in maintaining inventories at desired levels, provide price quotations for production materials, MRO supplies, non-routine materials, etc. to meet the demands of the business.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Identify, evaluate, and provide recommendations for suppliers to provide good/services.
  • Purchase and expedite (if required) materials for production, MRO supplies, etc. that meet the required quality and quantity expectations.
  • Facilitate the purchase of capital items and/or support services.
  • Negotiates price, credit terms, discounts, contracts, and delivery schedules with suppliers.
  • Spot check (benchmark) current goods with comparable industry suppliers to ensure appropriate pricing.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and address issues or disputes that arise during the procurement process.
  • Manages all back orders, late or short deliveries. Protects production in an effective manner.
  • Inspects all damaged or incorrectly received goods and informs suppliers and AP so that corrective action can be taken, and supplier credits can be assigned.
  • Monitor existing stock levels and forecast materials requirements to streamline operations and maintain desired inventory levels.
  • In matters pertaining to purchasing and inventory, contributes information and ideas for the development and monitoring of the company’s budget.
  • Prepares financial and non-financial analyses, reports and forecasts.
  • Analyzes daily production schedule/forecast to determine requirements.
  • Enforce raw component replenishment requirements that use (Kanban systems).
  • Monitor raw materials inventory levels, to keep inventory levels aligned with business requirements.
  • Drive cost reduction initiatives for procured components and services to support Airia’s business goals.
  • Identify potential supply chain risks and develop options to mitigate risks (i.e. dual source, safety stock, etc.).
  • Continuously improve existing procurement systems and tools and/or develop new systems and tools to enhance the effectiveness of procurement efforts.
  • Implement Lean Initiatives and promote 5S.

Experience, Requirements

  • Post-Secondary Education in Material Management field, Purchasing or Supply Chain Management.
  • Minimum 3 years of related experience or 10 years in manufacturing environment capacity in either scheduling or supervising.
  • Knowledge of purchasing ethics, concepts, and practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of company’s products.
  • Proven experience negotiating and managing contracts.
  • Knowledge of effective negotiation skills and how to apply them to the standard business transaction.
  • Ability to efficiently multi-task and schedule priorities.
  • Self-motivated, detail oriented, and the ability to process confidential and controlled information.
  • Effective problem-solving; ability to solve complex problems independently and quickly.
  • Self-confidence and ability to manage own activities.
  • ERP system experience is a must (Syspro ideal), advanced working knowledge of MS Excel skills including pivot tables, lookups, formulas, macros, etc.
  • Excellent mathematical and data entry skills.
  • Ability to readily learn and adapt to computer systems / applications.
  • Able to work in a high pressure, fast-paced environment.
  • Professional and clear communication skills - written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational skills and highly detail oriented.
  • Proven knowledge in lean manufacturing.
  • Must be knowledgeable in all facets of the company’s operations.
  • Influential interpersonal skills that build positive and strong relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to make decisions and recommendations that are clearly linked to the organization’s strategy and goals.
