Structural Estimator/Project Manager

We are seeking a Structural Estimator/Project Manager who is aspiring to reach their potential in the field of construction. J-AAR Structural is responsible for concrete forming and specializes in multi-residential and commercial buildings.  

 

Environment 

The Structural Estimator/Project Managers are responsible for preparing estimates for formwork and concrete relating to a variety of projects, along with taking estimates to the bid phase to project completion. The incumbents time will be split between an office environment and necessary site visits. During busy periods it is expected that all required time is prioritized to complete the work required and execute on specific timelines.    

 

How you will make an IMPACT 

    

    Estimator

  • Preparation of estimates for formwork and concrete relating to high rise residential towers, commercial projects residential basements, and understanding of Civil Structural components is and asset ie; bridges, culverts and chambers.
  • Review plans and specifications for completeness, converse with engineers and architects as required
  • Upon review of drawings and specifications, proactively analyze possible risks and develop solutions
  • Promptly escalate all issues, questions, and concerns relating to tender challenges if they arise
  • Seek and coordinate assistance from the operations team for decisions regarding the sequence of operations, site constraints, crew sizes, productivity factors, and project schedule
  • Perform project takeoffs utilizing different software programs Planswift, Bluebeam, HCSS and Maestro
  • Develop detailed estimates using industry software and adjust standard default bid items and activities when required for best accuracy, crew makeup, productions, risks associated with each task and overall risk
  • Solicitation of prices from Subcontractors and Suppliers for project requirements and materials
  • Review and procure bonds and insurance as required
  • Prepare bid submission documents, including bid deposits, proposal letters, conceptual plans and schedules, and tender forms
  • Develop and maintain estimating tools to ensure that repetitive tasks are completed more efficiently
  • Analyze and compile data from past projects that can influence costs and efficiencies of future projects 
  • Ensure that previous bid errors are not repeated
  • Perform site visits and attend pre-construction meetings to identify site constraints and project challenges 
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Be responsible and accountable for the projects, tasks and timelines that are assigned

 

    Project Manager

  • Define and clarify project scopes, develop project work plans and schedules 
  • Complete job start-up tasks 
  • Coordinate and organize materials and subcontractors 
  • Issue complete Purchase Orders prior to material delivery or subcontractor work is performed 
  • Coordinate long term crew requirements for the project with Site Supervisor and communicate with General Superintendents and Construction Manager 
  • Lead the direction of the project consistent with the above.  Verify work plans are in place and being followed, or document and communicate when operational improvements have been made. 
  • Ensure timely invoicing of projects, timely review and approval of invoices or invoice reports, and timely and accurate assembly of monthly accruals. 
  • Keep projects on track by regular review of schedule, progress and performance.  Evaluate cause of deviations from plan and develop and take corrective actions to address deviations. 
  • Be responsible and accountable for the projects, tasks and timelines that are assigned 
  • Perform additional assignments as directed by the Construction Manager for successful project completion 

 

How you WOW us 

  • Diploma or degree in a related field 
  • 4-10 years of estimating experience with expertise in structural projects
  • Advanced computer skills; previous experience with MS Office and Project. Planswift and Bluebeam is an asset
  • Proven experience developing successful workplans and leading projects  
  • Ability to build and maintain lasting relationships with other departments, key business partners
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills both verbal and written
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and analytical skills
