This role maintains payroll records, resolves discrepancies, and keeps up with evolving payroll regulations. Collaborating with other teams, employees, and authorities, the Payroll & Benefits Specialist ensures our workforce is paid accurately and in compliance with the law, contributing to financial integrity and employee satisfaction throughout the organization.

Position Overview:
  • Process semi-monthly and bi-weekly payroll for both hourly and salaried employees across Canada.
  • Prepare and execute pay change agreements and generate reports as needed by management.
  • Identify and promptly resolve payroll discrepancies or errors to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Administer new hire onboarding, terminations, and other personnel changes.
  • Manage timekeeping records and systems to ensure accurate tracking of employee hours, overtime, vacation, and statutory holidays.
  • Oversee leave management, including tracking, reporting, and compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Administer employee group benefits and RRSP programs, including enrollment, changes, calculating payroll deductions, and responding to inquiries.
  • Implement and manage the RRSP program in compliance with relevant regulations and company policies.
  • Handle the preparation and management of Records of Employment (ROEs) for departing employees.
  • Ensure compliance with both federal and provincial regulations in Canada when managing payroll processing, government report submissions, payroll remittances, completing essential tax forms such as T4s, etc.
  • Address and respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll processes, benefits, and any pay-related questions promptly and accurately and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Relevant Experience: 2-5 years of experience in payroll processing (processing payroll for 250+ employees) in a manufacturing environment
  • Education: Secondary school diploma or equivalent; a degree or diploma in accounting, finance, payroll administration, or another related field is considered an asset
  • Canadian Payroll Association (PCP) designation an asset
  • Payroll experience in all provinces or territories preferred
  • Strong computer skills with excellent knowledge of the entire Microsoft Office Suite, as well as proficiency with payroll software and tools such as Wagepoint, ADP and Ceridian
  • Proven experience in maintaining accurate and confidential payroll records and generating reports.
  • Familiarity with employee benefits, health insurance, retirement plans, and other deductions.
  • Strong grasp of labor laws, overtime regulations, and the ability to conduct audits.
  • Time Management: Efficiently manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain payroll operations' efficiency.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous in processing payroll to avoid errors and discrepancies.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with employees and collaborate with various teams.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and resolve payroll-related issues promptly.
