CNC Programmer/Machinist

General Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced CNC Programmer, who takes pride in their quality of workmanship and is confident in leadership. Candidates are required to be proficient in programming with MasterCam, set up and machining of prototype/production parts, moulds, dies and fixtures, while maintaining accuracy according to blueprints and CAD data. The ideal candidate ensures programming and setups reduce machine time and increase productivity while accommodating tool/machine life. Manufacturing of jigs/fixtures to support productivity is required.

Skills & Experience:

  • 10+ years licensed General Machinist
  • 5+ years programming – MasterCam (Fadal/HAAS) – Advanced
  • Should have a thorough understanding of "G" and "M" codes
  • SolidWorks software or similar experience - Advanced
  • Manual machining experience
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and CAD data
  • Good understanding of geometric tolerance and the requirements for machining and set up
  • Good understanding of tolerance callout, references and surface callouts and the resulting requirements for machining set up
  • Strategic thinking
  • Complete understanding of manufacturing costing around machining equipment, understanding and initiative to optimize programming effort, set up and spindle time
  • Understanding of tasks for “one offs,” “prototypes,” “first article with C of C” and mass production requirements
  • Self-optimized approach to plan out manufacturing set up and machining sequence to meet task on hand. Optimized approach and balance of trade-offs for most cost efficient approach of task on hand.
  • Management of manufacturing target budgets (time, cost, tooling) to improve on set up and cycle time
  • Early detection of improvement opportunities of machined parts in participation of design reviews
  • Establishing of CNC – Standards for parent Company: Armatec Survivability Corporation

Essential Duties:

  • Determine best machining strategy to complete work piece including setups, tooling
  • Programs machine using MasterCam software for required operations including roughing, semi-finishing, finishing and manual machining
  • Selects and mounts proper cutting tools in machine spindle
  • Sends program to CNC machine
  • Operates CNC Machining Center using controls to adjust feeds and speeds in order to achieve maximum operating efficiencies and quality of workmanship
  • Plans order of operations of machining to maximize spindle up time including running through breaks and lunch periods
  • Checks and verifies machining operation at each step of the process using various measuring instruments such as scales, micrometers, telescoping gauges, calipers, fixed gauges, and dial indicators
  • Performs regular inspection of assigned machine and completes inspection sheets provided for such
  • Reports ineffective/broken tooling, tooling required to order and machine problems to immediate supervisor
  • Maintains cleanliness of machine and machine area
  • Trains new employees as directed
  • Uses and wears the equipment, protective devices and clothing as required by the Company
  • Performs regular maintenance of assigned machine and completes weekly maintenance checks
  • Works in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Regulations
  • Complies with all company rules, policies, procedures and programs
  • Any and all other duties as assigned
  • Attention to detail and takes pride in doing quality work
