R&D Lead Test Engineer

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a team of interns, validation testing oversee all technical testing with our collaborative team at Trojan! You will support the testing from general power to the firmware, controls system, HMI, and programming side, making recommendations to our current processes and participating in design reviews to offer ideas and recommendations from tests performed.

 

Accountabilities

  • Assists in development of new test protocols
  • Develops operating, maintenance and test procedures based on laboratory standards and safety policies.
  • Assists in scheduling, assigning, reviewing and coordinating workflow to assure proper utilization of staff
  • Directs the daily activities of designated staff. Advises supervisor on staffing levels, and performance
  • Designs, adapts or directs the building of test setups and equipment to new situations, based on analysis of test specifications and engineering department requests and instructions
  • Prepares purchase and material requisitions. Recommends solutions to observed test problems
  • Participate in root cause analysis and investigations of materials failure and testing issues
  • Communicates with department personnel to receive instructions, convey data and resolve equipment availability and with internal clients during test setup and performance to demonstrate or otherwise illustrate equipment test methods and/or discuss test results
  • Support and trouble shoot vendor hardware and firmware issues as required
  • Build rapid prototypes of product concepts to illustrate design concepts
  • Travel is a requirement between our London and Guelph facilities

 

Qualifications

  • B.Sc. in Mechatronics Engineering. Minimum of 5 years of related work experience.
  • Working knowledge and experience in mechanical/electrical/instrumentation and controls design
  • Experience with Electronic Systems, Electronics Troubleshooting, Electronic Testing Design, Project Management, Quality Focus, Creativity, problem solving and attention to detail
  • Experience developing laboratory or machine automation software
  • LabVIEW software – minimum 2 years’ experience preferred
  • Ability to work both independently and as a productive member of a development/sustainment team
  • Proficient in using Solidworks CAD software and strong computer skills is an asset
  • Hands on skills like soldering and using basic hand tools
